solicitor, mediator or both?

I have been separated for a while and am now looking into divorce proceedings and I want to clarify I few things before I appoint a solicitor(which could be a costly mistake).

I understand that a mediator can help both parties agree on issues regarding children and finances.

If we go to a mediator, do I need to have appointed a solicitor? Will the mediator guide/ make sure that we both know what to ask for/are entitled to or do we need to go in with an agreement i mind (in which case would i need a solicitor to point everything out first?)?

Thanks in advance

Thank you -

Sorry - that sounds like an awful situation. It's good to hear your sort of story though because it is too easy to take on the "it wont happen to me' attitude

Ive also had some advice on PMs this week and have been in touch with a solicitor so moving things forward.

thanks for your reply - hope things improve for your family!
