Can anyone tell me how I can get back to HK, if I arrive close to midnight at Shenzhen airport. The Lo Wu border crossing used to close at midnight. Is that still the case? What are the alternatives?

Your best bet is to go back via Huang Gang (Lok Ma Chau). That border crossing is open 24hours.

What are the transport options going that way? I'd rather not get a cab, but what buses are running?

there are a row of cross border buses at the Huanggang checkpoint, going to major areas of hk (prince edward, wanchai etc...)
