What kind of dance? And what is your budget? There are quite a few dance studios in the Central area but the style and fees charged vary greatly. I am assuming that you don't speak Cantonese, English-speaking instructors (usually fro Europe) tend to cost a bit more (usually about $600/45 minute private lesson) but the cost can usually be split by as many 4 people for a semi-private lesson with a European teacher. Also, European teachers tend to be on the tall side so being 6 ft tall is generally not too much of an issue. You might consider joining a group class offered by a Western teacher since these tend to be a much more affordable way to get your feet wet.

http://www.islanddance.com.hk/index.html - try giving them a call and ask whether they can help. My daughter attends their dance classes.

Have you tried salsa? I know there are Latin classes in HK but don't think there are many outlets for practising whereas salsa is very popular, with lots of lessons and salsa parties every night - mainly in LKF and Wanchai. Google Hong Kong Salsa Yahoo Group which gives you lots of info. Lessons are in English. HK's salsa community is quite small but growing. You will soon get to know people and there are always lots of experienced dancers willing to help learners.

hmmm...still unsure about what sort of dance you are interested in, but check out the HK salsa site by writing to:hongkongsalsa@yahoogroups.com
I salsa dance four nights a week - it is great fun and perfect for women who are worried about going to a bar and being harrassed by men. We go there to dance - not pick up girls. Perfectly safe for a girl to go there on her own. It is possible to dance seven nights a week and there are lots of studio lessons available. You will see ads by Alex Amoroso on the Yahoo group site. He tought me in London and is fantastic. I know that he gives private lessons. But why not join a class anyway? There are plenty of pre-party lessons where you will get good tuition and meet people.
