China Visa - China Resources Building

ORIGINAL POST

I've been told that you can get a Visa for China (just the single/double entry ones at the moment) from the China Resources Building in Wan Chai.

Can anyone expand on this with details of which floor/office/organisation I should be looking for?

If I just want to go to Shenzen, do I need take a passport photo?

Thanks

Thank you so much Flathunter. Really helpful.

I take it that the need for a confirmed booking in a Chinese hotel stated as one of the requirements for a visa application, is not going to apply to a single entry Visa for Shenzen?

Thats right, got double entry shenzhen visa last week and no bookings, travel details required. Just needed passport, i.d card, and photo...application forms available outside to fill in whilst you queue. (around 2 hours for me)

Get to the visa office early - before they open at 9am. Take a book/ipod/coffee/something to eat and that will help pass the time. Admittedly I went before this visa change but my waiting time was only about an hour. I then returned a few days later to collect it.

Ah!! I was planning to go in this afternoon. Maybe I need to reconsider that - or take a bigger book!

I looked up the website above yesterday and noticed that the page with Visa prices on it had 'mysteriously' gone blank. Does anyone know if it is still $150 for a single entry visa (NZ passport) or has there been a change in fee?

Went to the China Resources Building today. Arrived just after 3pm to find a queue of about 80 people outside the building. It took almost an hour to get to the front door and find the reason for the queue - a metal detector and bag check staffed by two people (one of whom watched rather than 'did').

Once you get upstairs you have to get and fill out an application form, before having the form checked and being issued a number. I got my number at 4pm and had 155 people in front of me. Of the 11 counters only 3 were staffed for general visas. At 7pm I was seen and was out the door by 7.05. 4hrs in total. (Apparently they stop entry at 5pm but will then process everyone that is in the building. They were there until 9pm on Monday night and there were still about 100 people waiting when I left)

Prices - $300 for a single entry(3 months), $400 for a double entry(said six months on the form).

Rush jobs, $500 and $600 respectively. (pay - cash only - on pick up)

What to take: Photo, photocopy of your HKID. If you want to visit mainland China, other than Shenzen, you also need a copy of your hotel reservation and your airline/train tickets.

One lady I was chatting to whilst waiting had a rough day. She had been turned away from Japan Travel because she only wanted to go to Shenzen and therefore didn't have a hotel reservation - they told her they could no longer do these types of visa. After waiting four hours at the China Resource Building she was refused a visa as she had her new passport with her, not the old one with her HK visa - she did have her HKID but that was not enough.

So, back on Friday pm to join the (slightly shorter) pick up queue for the metal detector!!

I have a Brit passport and a two-year multiple entry visa (catagory F) expiring end March 2009. Will I still be able to use this without problems?

I hold a british passport and 3 month double entry 5 day shenzhen visa cost 670HKD.Collecting tomorrow, so an early start I think :-( I think was around 500 for single entry. Not sure on full china visa.

No personal experience, but entries in other forums on this site state people have had no problems using their existing multi entry visas...

seems things may have changed. quote from other forum "ban on multiple visa shocker"

"Friend from Australia had his one-year multiple-entry visa downgraded at the border today on re-entry to HK. It was changed to a single-entry, which they said he had already used going in."

Price update - A friend went to pick up her visa today and said the Shenzen only visa (double entry) was $220 for an NZ passport and $670 for a UK passport.

just returned from collecting visa. arrived 7:20 and was 2nd in queue, out by 9:15. I may have been lucky but judging by today arrive anytime before 8 and should not be hanging around too long once inside.

Just went to Shenzhen yesterday and popped into the border visa office to see the state of play. My multi entry is nearly expired. The man behind the desk was happy to do a $450 (UK passport) visa for Shenzhen only. No queue - probably because no one knows. He wanted to see my Hong Kong ID as well. I guess it's changing every day but that was the deal yesterday. Good luck!

Be aware that the visa collection counter does not open until 10am. They let you into the office at 9am, but then you have to queue up inside. When I left at 10.15am, the queue outside the building for pick-up's was non existent, but the queue inside was stretched the length of the hall and back. Once the desk opened however, they seemed to process people very quickly.

Yesterday, they opened the counter at 9:15, and although on the collection ticket it said 10am collection the passports were ready.
