We are going home for 3 weeks, back to the UK. Is it possible to rent a car seat for my toddler anywhere? Online? or can you generally do it locally etc.?

If you are renting a car most rental companies also will rent car seats as well. Think it cost me something like 29 quid for 2 weeks at Christmas.

There are plenty of options:
i) if you are rentinga car you can also rent a car seat, but thsi can be expensive for 3 weeks (and the seats are often filthy);
ii) sit 'n' stroll would allow you to check-in your buggy and wheel the child on and off the plane (assuming you have a seat for him/her);
iii) there are plenty of baby equipment hire companies. If you scroll down to the area in which you will be staying, there are links to plenty of websites;

iv) if you are being me by someone at the plane they might be able to bring a spare car seat of theirs or buy one on your behalf at Argos etc (start at abut £25, so often cheaper tha renting);
v) you can bring your own car seat. Cathay in particular are really good at packing them for you in a large plastic bag at check-in, there are also special canvass bags that are made specially for car seats;
vi) there's a product called 'Tote a Tot' that allows a car seat to be strapped to a wheelie bag to wheel child+seat through the airport (liek a makeshift Sit'n'Stroll):

vii) similarly, there's another called GoGo Kidx, which does something similar without the wheelie bag (a set of wheels attaches to certain brand car seats)

Both products have to be shipped from the US.
Good luck.

I am also going to the UK with my toddler, but we won't have a car while we are there. Will I need to bring the car seat for taxis?
I don't know anyone in the UK and will be there for over one month.
