I have an American friend who is qualified in law, she's quite young but has been teaching here for a year and wondered if there are any opportunities for ex-pats in the legal arena! She doesn't know Chinese - anyone any ideas?

Many thanks!

If she has good pedigree in terms of education, she shouldn't have a problem finding work with one of the law firms in Hong Kong, especially if she has a US based education. A friend of mine came to Hong Kong looking for work and had no problem at all.

Chinese language skills seem not to have been a requirement for US qualified lawyers in HK (although desireable). Korean language skills helpful as a lot of US teams/other firms have a separate US/Korean team. As above, with a good degree, both US firms and the bigger of the UK firms (magic circle) with a US team would be worth trying although the credit crunch has had a big effect on US based financing deals at least and may be less hires as a result.
