Asked ppl to put money into my HSBC account in the UK. I gave her the card number printed on my HSBC UK debit card instead of my account number. What will happen?

It wont get transfered and the funds should be credited back to your friends account as the transfer will fail.

Oh Thanks for your help as I am so worried it may transfer to someone else if I gave the card number to my friend to transfer!!! The UK debit card is so stupid not indicating the account number clearly. Just showing the card number. I have only realised the account number is hiding between those long numbers on top!!!

Well unless there is an account number which is exactly the same as the number which appears on your card, the transfer will fail and as far as I know HSBC don't have 16 digit account numbers

Yes I gave the card number which contains 9 digits while the account number contains 8 digits. I gave the numbers which are next to the sort code called card number. It contains 9 digits.

Ok that is a little different, my card has 16 digits as a number, I'm still pretty sure they will reject that transfer by saying account number has to many digits (I hope UK accounts don't have 9 numbers, if they do, you could be in for trouble.)
I did a search and found that all UK bank account numbers have 8 digits only but its not a bank source.

Hi Digital Blonde, I am so grateful that you put so much efforts for my issue. I have found out when she put the money into my UK HSBC account with my CARD number given to her, it still came up with my name so I think it should be OK. Hopefully the UK HSBC can locate the money into my savings under that CARD number being given.
