I have a full UK pasport valid til 2015 but have very little space left. Does anyone know if I have to apply for a new passport, or can I get pages inserted?
Also if I have to renew do I need my birth certifcate and certified photos?
Thanks for any advice.

If you need to renew I think your original passport will do unless you were naturalised, in which case you will need the certificate. You definitely need certified photographs and I think you can get pages inserted but you should check with the consulate.

I don;t think that UK consulate can add pages, but have to change for a new one.

Actually you are right, my friend ran out of pages and had to get a new passport all together, what you can do is when you apply for the passport is you get a choice between a standard number of pages and a passport which comes with bonus pages, the latter is more expensive of course

I just renewed my passport in March as well and on the form it says clearly that the photos need to be certified by someone respected in the community who can attest to your identity. i.e a signature by a doctor or someone of the like, I had my application sent back for not doing it the first time. I had my application rejected three times because of that bloody biometric photo.

If you go in person to submit the application the person receiving the application form to renew a passport confirms your photograph is you. This is from personal experience.

Oh I see, I didn't go personally, I just sent my application in to a consulate in another part of a country in which I was living recently, which is why they probably wanted my photo attested because I wasn't making the application in person.
