Is anybody aware of the legislation regarding paternight leave? How many days?

NONE by HK law. A few companies have just started offering such as HSBC. You need to check with your employer if it is part of their benefits.

yep - none at all! in UK was 2 wks, now I believe moved to 3 wks... Wishful thinking as far as HK goes..

Before we go on the HK bashing bandwagon, I think it's worth remembering that if the state pays maternity and/or paternity leave, this is not free. It's paid by everyone paying taxes.


I'm all for legislation allowing unpaid time off. For the rest, not so much.

Sorry axptguy, the state does not pay maternity fee, the employers do. Same with paternity in UK and HSBC here in HK.


If it was state, then of course different.

Ah I see evildeeds. My bad. I keep remembering Sweden. ;)


It could, of course, be argued that the employer has to pay everyone a touch less to afford it. But I'm sure it would just go to profits.
