i sucessfully convinced baby that we've dont he breast feeding thing long enough about two weeks ago (Yay!!)

Anyways, now i am stuck with a whole lot of problems. My baby didnt want to drink any cows milk and i gave him follow on milk instead.

First brand i used seemed to give him a bit of diarhea so i switched to another one, the second one seems to make his stomach bloat up, not to mention bad breath :((

I took him to a ped who said that u need to wait at least two weeks to see if one brand of formula agrees with baby or not.

Would like to gt feedback from other mums that have given formula to breastfed baby (practically changed from being bf to formula fd from one day to another, as gradual replacement of feeds didnt work).

how long did you wait before changing brands, which ones worked for you...

any tips on how to prevent bloating : does gripe water work?

thanks!

i switched baby to formula cold turkey (but at 4 months) with no problems. i use HIPP organic because supposedly it's the only one that doesn't have added sugar (??). anyway, i've tasted it and it's foul and it definitely does not taste sweet at all. anyhoo how old is your baby? you can only get it at B2B which is a pain. and they only have the 6month + follow on. they're completely out of stock of the 10month + growing up formula which is what i think you need (since you've already tried cow's milk).

mine will be 15 months tomorrow. Originally i tried to intorudce formula and cows milk while i was still BF, but he would none of it. I did try Hipp organic follow on milk, but he would have none of it. the follow on one was a bit sweet. They say no sugar, but then they add sweetened whey(?!). he drank cow and gate willingly enough afet r the first three days, but it seemed to upset his stomach (diarhea 2-3 times a day) so i switched to nestle, which seems to make his stomach bloat, but no diarhea.

Curds and whey are the two types of milk protein. The whey is the easy-to-digest liquid portion, and the curd is the casein protein that forms a rubbery, harder-to-digest lump.

Breast milk contains a much higher amount of whey than most formulas and cow's milk do, so breastmilk is easier to digest. The higher amount of casein in formula milk is responsible for more gastrointestinal upsets for babies. You may find changing to a hydrolyzed or partially hydrolyzed formula helpful. The milk protein in these formulas has been broken down into smaller particles supposedly making them easier to digest.

Thanks, but could you suggest brands that are better in this respect? or should i use a formula that is from birth onwards or 6 months onwards?

I have been using NAN HA (from 6mths) for my 14mth as it is hydrolyzed. Would be interested to hear if Matilda has a follow on suggestion.

Try goats milk formula - it does have less lactose smaller proteins and a health nurse told me it has one less protein than cows milk. This is why alot of babies do well on it.

See www.kinderkinder.com.hk for Holle's Organic Goat Milk Follow-on formular
