Leather bag de-moulding!

Hello,

I have a lovely -and expensive- leather bag that I left for a few months in my wardrobe, just to find it had got totally mouldy.

In addition it is a special leather, kind of "cracked" one, and I am appalled!!!

Does anyone know of a good place to get it carefully and professionally cleaned?

thanks!

Hi, If the mould is the grey musty type I am thinking of you can use a mist of clove oil and water (I0mls oil to 200 ml water) Mist and leave for two days then brush off as much mould as possible and repeat. Depending on how far the spores have penetrated the leather this should do the trick. Be careful where you dust off the excess mould as it will start off new outbreaks. I found those space bags are a good investment here. You put your gear inside them and suck out the air. No mould forms inside.

Where can you get the space bags from?

Hi Gumnut,

thank you for the tip.

However I am concerned as my bag is made of very thin cracked leather (looking old, not to say ancient). So brushing it would definitely damage that leather a lot...

Any other possibility?

I'm even thinking of sending it to my parents in Europe to bring to specialists.

I am sad... :((

Next time I will use space bags.

I wonder if I haven't seen some in Japan Home Centre?

I can't wait to try on mine. Where do you buy your clove oil?
