I have my kids on the waiting list for an ESF school, but in the event that they are not accepted. I want to use the AIS as a backup school, but heard that the reputation is not up to par. I did not get any specifics.
What is the reputation of the AIS and why? Would I be better off considering another school. We will be living in Clearwater Bay.

I am sorry, I am not much help, but I know quite a few americans here (I am not) and none of them seem to be sending their kids to AIS... must be telling us something?

Although schools here may be named XYZCountry International School, many of them are privately run - often by a family and I've believe that's the case with Am Int.
I know families who were easily able to register their children for this school as a Plan B when they had been placed on long waiting lists at other international schools. But I don't know anyone who has actually sent their child to this school.
It's always worth a visit to the school if you can.

I send my kids to school everyday in Kowloon Tong area, passing by AIS everyday at least 3-4 times a day.
from what I see, the way the students' behave on Waterloo Road, and in Festival Walk, I would NEVER want to send my children there.
the boys are really "foul" mouth, the girls are loud, and also "foul" mouth, boyfriend/girlfriend attitude publicly displayed, skirts are pulled up to the butt.... etc.
And in my 7 years in HK, I have heard NOTHING about this school. If there was a reputation, (a good one) one would hear about it.
Just my observations.

Thanks for your feedback esp. from Katetam. Since I am not yet in HK and will not be until August, I cannot visit the school before applications.
