I need 200 dresses tailored. Is it really worth it going to Shenzen to get them tailored. I was given a quote of 140 to 200 yuan per dress, fabric +tailoring. any of you ladies have any ideas on costing.is this resonable. the dresses are simple cotton summer dresses.

Should be a bit less than that. My tailor does dresses for 70-80RMB, but if it's more than one of the same style then he'll discount usually. Fabric is around 20-25RMB for cotton, you probably need a couple of metres so a max of 50RMB for fabric. Don't pay more unless it's something very special.

I've been comparing cotton fabric at Sham Shui Po, Shenzhen, and Spotlight at Kowloon Bay. Interestingly, Sham Shui Po was cheaper, Spotlight was next, and Shenzhen was more. Not a lot of difference in price per meter, but when multiplied, it makes a difference. After comparing prices, I was full of confidence to ask for better prices in Shenzhen, and got cotton fabric for 15RMB per meter - and I only bought 8 meters.
