Cost of a website

You will need two things:

- A registered address ("www.stuffiwanttosell.com"). Registration depends on the top-level domain (".com,.org,.net") but should be around USD 10-20 per year. Many hosting companies throw in one registration as part of the package.

- Domain hosting. This is typically less than 10 USD/month unless you have really massive traffic.


There are many providers. I use Dreamhost. They provide both registration service and website hosting. Here is their current package http://dreamhost.com/hosting.html . During my 3½ years with DH, prices have constantly gone down and storage/bandwidth etc have constantly gone up. As you can see your storage and bandwidth increase automatically every week. Currently, you get hosting and registration including email, ftp and so forth for USD 5.95-49.95/month. The price depends on how many months you pay up front (see bottom of page).
