AFAIK it does depend a bit on your nationality as well.

interesting that that link states a Hong Kong citizen living in Hong Kong requires a visa, when my wife (who fits the bill) has never needed a visa in her life...are these new regulations? (Canadian tourists are still exempt for ex.)

Then in bold print it says the site's services are for US and Cdn residents only....I think their facts may be wrong...

Yeah they must have their facts wrong. As I understand it as long as you have a valid Identity Card, for Macau, you are good to go. I certainly have never had a problem with it.

We went to Macau for the weekend (two Brits) and used our passports (which got stamped) but noticed that most people handed over their ID card. A lady in front of us handed over a European passport (couldn't tell which country) and seemed to have been asked to also show her ID card - the customs guy had flicked through her passport and then asked her something which she repsonded to by showing the ID card. We handed over passport + ID card and had no problems.

Also, we took the Cotaijet ferry, which goes to Taipa rather than Macau. Very nice boat (in First, anyway). Very quiet customs. Very close to Venetian and convenient for Westin hotel. I think I'd take this ferry even if I were staying in Macau. My memories of the Macau ferry and customs chaos at the Macau terminal are not good.
