Hi we are an Australian married couple planning on moving to HK for a while. As i'm under 30, i'm able to get a working holiday visa for 1 year. My husband is over 30, so he won't be able to. We have our own online business, which we want to do from there.
Does my husband have to get a return ticket to Australia (after 90 days) to show at the airport if he has no visa? We really can't afford to have him fly back and fourth every 3 months. Is there any way around this? Can he get a one way ticket to HK and a ticket to Bangkok to show at the airport or something else? Please if anyone has any ideas or advice that would be great thanks!!!

Most airlines will not let you board the plane without a return ticket/visa. They are responsible for all the costs involved in repatriation if one of their passengers is refused entry.

I dont think you need a return ticket for Hong Kong entry, just a valid visa should do, I think its visa on arrival for Australians anyway.

Well that is not a big problem, the guy will be leaving anyway to extend his visa, but what about those travelers that are coming to Hong Kong that dont know their exact departure date or city.

If you plan on staying in HK for a while, it might be possible to setup a shelf company to employ you, and then have the company sponsor you. I don't have personal experience in this, but have heard of a few people do it before.

It costs a lot of money to set up a company in Hong Kong if you are not a resident, I think you would need an investment visa which requires a bank balance of HK$ 6 million, not something you would do if you werent serious or planning to spend more than a few months here
