Any cheese. There are really no restrictions apart from salt content.

Our #2 is now 13 months. I cannot think of a food that we eat that she has not tried and liked, including very spicy curries. It's fascinating to see a girl with only two teeth in the lower jaw consume a piece of chicken by patiently pulping it with her gums.

Perhaps you could start with a mild cheddar and fairly soft to bite through, like mainland mild cheddar, that has quite a soft texture and isn't too sharp a taste. Just please don't go for "plastic cheese" it really is truly horrible!

in addition to the above - cream cheese, cottage cheese. I still would not give them non-pasturased cheeses (not sure - maybe from 2 yrs old, but suspect they wont like it anyway) like brie, camembert etc

It's good to be cautions.

Some kids just like to have a hard piece of food they can gnaw on for a while.

Agreed wholeheartedly!!!

Thanks everyone for your great help.

One more thing, when do you usually give cheese to your LO? morning, afternoon, dinner? with bread?

i started with cream cheese sandwiches as their snack between the meals. Otherwise - we use quite a bit in their cooking - grated over pasta, i grate some in their meatballs, etc..

New foods should preferably be tried when baby is not tired. Once they're not bew anymore, any time works. Babies don't know about adult culinary conventions. Here it would typically be all of the above.

We don't give it with bread to our 13 month old. One thing at a time is enough for her. ;)

Hello,

Our children are eating cheese, non-pasturized ones, since 10m old.

You used to have cheese at the end of lunch and dinner, with bread. After that, we have a dessert.

We are French - the country of cheese!!

Jele,

how do you distinguish pasteurized and non-pasteurized cheese?

Tks.

indeed as cara says - prob 90% of hard cheeses are pasturised (cheddar, edam, gouda, etc etc). Examples of non-pasturasied are brie, camembert, blue cheeses, and most of soft cheeses, excl mozarella - that is is pasturised. But they should say on the them.

It is a kind of cheese that you will find in almost all the supermarket in a pack but written party cubes. inside contained i think 24 cubes of small cheese wrapped individually. 3 kinds of flavor but i only give the Plain.Nature for my son.
