Where we can get one? (Ideally two, for twins.) The Joeysafe website and similar websites have recently vanished. Many thanks.

Do a search on the parent's forum, there are a lot of threads on this.

It is also now called the Freedom Ride.

Thank you, crj, but I have tried that. Unfortunately the websites that people mention have closed down, or they no longer stock the Freedomride / Joeysafe. [I should be hugely grateful and contrite if you can post a link to a functioning website that still stocks the product this month.] I have also tried Amazon, ebay etc, but the sellers on those sites are wholesalers (1,000 units +).

My real hope is that a fellow asiaxpat might be willing to sell a Joeysafe ... perhaps because tot has grown out of it, or because that family now owns a car with a proper car seat.

By the way, before someone suggests Plan B, sturdy car seats are not a realistic option for a nondriver with 18 month old twins.

Thanks.

2020, in the same boat - I have 22 month old twins and I dont drive, in case i need to take taxi i used (stoped now really, but should still do it...) the flight vests (red ones you can buy in B2B) - they have this hook on the back, so you thread the car seatbelt through it. It is not ideal, but it is something at least.

As for buying it from someone - make sure to post a thread under Wanted in the Clasiffieds section.

Thanks Idsllvn. Unfortunately flight vests are useless in cars. That hook breaks instantly on impact, and even in a low speed crash (30mph/50kph) bub goes through the windscreen (or into the back of the seat in front) with the force of a canonball, usually breaking the neck. That is why the flight vests are approved only when a plane is cruising - not for takeoff or landing. Most terrifying is when you see adults strapping their own seatbelt over bub: even in a modest impact (say head on between two cars each traveling at the low speed of 30mph/50kph), bub is sliced clean in half by the lap belt, as the mother's body squashes the baby with the force of a battering ram. There was a gruesome photo of the aftermath on a car safety website - mercifully the hosts of that site appear to have deleted the photo.

But I will definitely post in Classifieds. Thanks.

At least in only 6 months you can use two Compass Boosters. Lightweight and foldable.

If I may get on my soapbox, a car seat is the only good option with (some) vests a distant second. As mentioned, flight vests are useless. In Canada, the US, Australia, NZ, most of Western Europe, the UK, putting your kids in the car without a car seat is illegal, and for very good reasons. If you want a legal vest, this looks like a better option than Joeysafe: http://www.amazon.com/Safe-Traffic-System-Inc-Travel/dp/B000MGWEII

We have two kids and no car. Sure, it's a hassle on occasion, but we have adapted our location and lifestyle so that we don't need to put them in cars very often.

The reason you don't see Joeysafe/Freedomride sold on Amazon (US/UK) is because they are not legal for use in the US/UK.

Quoting an eBay listing:

"I have 15,000 Freedom Ride Safety Harness's in stock.

They sell for $47 each online, and the Overseas market is HOT!

They just need marketing! I will sell the entire 15,0000 units for $50,000 which is $3.33 each! "

Now if that isn't someone trying to unload an unsellable item, I don't know what is.

But axptguy38, what do I do for the next six months?

maybe you are i should start driving! :) we actually have a car (with two very sturdy car seats in it) for weekends when my husband drives...

But on the more serious note - we limit time in taxis for only when absolutely necessary - our helpers take them to school - less than 5 min taxi ride (cant walk sadly as no sidewalk along the road!). And if they have to take them somewhere else like the club or something - we ask them to use public transport... Somehow feels a bit safer, although a royal pain in the backside with two small kids..

Tough one. You could buy two Compass seats. I guess they would work even though they are "from 24 months". Or you can get two Safe Traffic harnesses. There's no simple solution.

Unfortunately the SafeRider needs to be used with an overhead tether until 60lbs / 25kg. Singapore taxis (unlike US/Oz) are not fitted with the necessary rear anchor points. What is the "Compass" seat that you refer to? - Is it something that a woman can realistically carry two of round shopping malls (in addition to the shopping and toddlers, when they get fractious)? Thanks.

Compass foldable booster seat: http://www.amazon.com/Compass-Premier-Folding-Adjustable-Booster/dp/B000HHYJKS . The description says 14 pounds but I don't think it weighs quite that much. Anyway it folds "flat". You also get a free carry bag but if I had two I would construct some sort of harness to carry them on my back.

We have also noticed that if you ask nicely a lot of guards in the malls (in HK) will store the car seats for you. No guarantees of course.

As I said there is no simple solution. If I am alone going shopping I leave the kids at home with our helper or just bring one (not an option with twins I guess). If we do go out for the whole day on an outing we sometimes hire a minivan and driver so we can just mount the seats in the morning. It's about 200 Honkies an hour in HK.

When we looked for a place to live, we focused a lot on finding a place where we wouldn't have to put them in cars a lot. Our real estate agent thought we were nuts. ;)
