oh my! not really usuall - ours (and everyone's we know) slept something like 18 hours at least around that age - at random hours but still... I would show him to a pediatritian just on the safe side - am sure he is absolutely fine but he really should be sleeping a lot at 10 days old..

All babies are different but this does sound quite unusual. As Idsllvn says I would consult a pediatrician.

While most parents expect newborns to sleep or catnap most of the day, the range of what is normal is quite wide. Breastfed babies feed frequently 8 to 12 times per day with short periods of sleep in between. Babies do tend to have fussy evenings with periods of cluster feeding. Check with your child's doctor or baby clinic if you have questions about how much (or how little) your baby is sleeping.

You might also consider lightly swaddling your baby for the next 2 weeks or so until he can comfortably get himself to sleep. If you're not sure how to do it, google 'swaddle baby'.

Don't worry, my Don’t worry, my baby was like this too, and didn’t sleep or nap much during the day at all and fed constantly – literally every 1 or 2 hours, and fed non-stop all evening before falling into a deep sleep. My doctor said it was ok as long as she seemed fine otherwise, e.g. seems relatively content and grows well. I think because of this, like your baby, my baby never really woke much at night and started to sleep through the night at about 6 weeks.

Ya. dont worry. My brother's baby girl now 7+ months is not sleeping much from birth too. she just latches on her mom non-stop!!!!! She is fine, contented, smile/laugh loud and plays happily. she does sleep sometimes now for 4-5 hours, sometimes wake up every 2 hours... she is such a chubby baby and knowing how to call papa and mama at 5 months old, loud and clear, much not only delight to his parents' heart but ours too. every baby is truly different and not one is alike. enjoy parenthood till the full.

PDNS - i would worry if the baby at 7+ months was constantly feeding - they really should be on rouite by then. babies are different but routine makes it easier on both parents and children and I am afraid your brother's little girl does not sound like she has any sort of routine whatsoever. poor mother - having to feed a 7month old all day long!!!
Dadda - i would not go down that route, if I were you - but of course it is your choice

Ya, i told my sister in-law to introduce routine at around 3 weeks old. she has been trying and trying, it works for a few weeks and the little one started another new round of waking up at different hours. I went home not long ago and stayed with them for a while. that little girl just took cat nap, like 1/2 hour or an hour in the day, 2 times aday and then at night, 4-5 hours and woke up to latch and sleep for another 2-3 hours..... i think my sister in-law is giving up on routine but to just let her be. it is really hard but she is ok with that kind of 'routine'.

Routine pays off, even if it takes weeks and months. And kids will "fall off the wagon". Our 14 month old is starting to wake up at 0400 again. But we know she'll get back on the wagon as long as we have the routine.
