Looking for a non-kitschy wedding dress

Hi there,


I am getting married this summer and just started to look for a nice dress.


Actually I thought it would not be so difficult with that many wedding stores around but I really had hard a hard time finding a nice simple yet stylish Western style dress without any glitter, tons of lace or crinoline.


As I won't get married in church, I am looking for something more like an festive evening gown.


So here's my question: does anybody know where I can find a nice, elegant dress or can recommend me a tailor for a tailor-made one?

Yes, I had mine made at Matador Couture in Central - like you I wasn't haven't a church wedding and didn't want anything conventional.


They were very helpful - and although they have a lot of ready-to-wear, they will also make you anything from scratch - taking in pictures will help.

You can see all of their designs (by designer Augusta Jones) on the website, absolutely elegant and simply beautiful, prices for the ones that I liked were around 18-22k


As we are planning to have 2 different wedding receptions in different places I didnt want to spend too much on my gown for a civil registration in HK so I myself ended up ordering a taylor made dress from Scent of Bride in Causeway bay

Though designers that run this studio are both locals all the ready-to-buy dresses that I`ve tried there were very simple yet stylish and looked great on me (EU standard size 4). They can taylor make your own design or they can alter/add some new features based on their design if you like it and it suits you. Prices are around 10-11k for very elegant quality dresses, frankly speaking I was surprised! The place is so cozy and the staff is so nice that I seriously didnt want to leave, after all the terrible previuos "dress searching" experience here in hk it seemed simply unbeliavable ;-)


Wedding dress that will make you feel and look like yourself at your best on your special day is truly a very delicate matter, so good luck, hope the info helps a little!

not getting married (done that a while ago now) but every time I walk past Alberta Ferretti store in Landmark i think, "oh, if i were getting marrried!'. Not sure whether it is way out there on budget front - but they have these most beatufil white and off-white dresses at the moment - they are just magic! Call them and ask when sale is on just in case - should be one coming up in the next few weeks i would say!
