hi...my bub has 6 teeth and 2 more coming out. i have been using water with clean cloth to try to clean his teeth, but he really doesn't like it and clam his mouth all the time. sigh...

i m thinking to get a toothpaste and toothbrush for him instead as i beleive the toothpaste should be sweet and may encourage him to brush. and of course, should be cleaner than using water....

which type should i buy?

There are several brands. For example Oral-B has a few flavors for kids. Tastes like candy. Make sure that whatever you buy is low in fluoride and use only the tiniest amount.

As for the mouth closing, this may take a long time to get around. You can't force it. A song might help, as well as letting him brush you.

Agree with the song, I always sang 'this is the way we brush our teeth' to the tune of Here we go round the Mulberry bush.

There might be some fluoride in it. Very low percentages, are fine. Oral-B with the Disney characters has 0.11% fluoride.

my kids hates the tastes of the Oral B ones.

So I ended up searching and buying many kinds. Now, they like the ones from the healthy food stores/organic ones. Meka also sells some for babies that are TOTALLY safe for their use.

I can respect the taste thing but what makes you think Meka is any safer than Oral B?

Well, what can we do except to trust its packaging and its stated ingredients?

Meka doesn't make own toothpaste. The toothpaste is from Australia or Germany, I can't recall. The toothpaste was safe to "swallow".

Fair enough Momoftwo.

I checked the Oral-B "Stages" tube. It's 0.11% fluoride and it says "Children under seven should have a pea sized quantity of toothpaste to minimize swallowing".
