Residential wireless internet access

ORIGINAL POST

I have already a broadband internet access with HGC at home but apparently they do not provide wireless residential internet access. and PCCW does only provide this service to their existing internet broadband clients.

Is there still a way for me to have wireless internet access at home?

Buy a wireless router for 300-400 Honkies and install it on top of your broadband.

It doesnt seem that you need to be a pccw customer, my friend just installed a wireless system on his boat about two weeks ago, and he had never been a customer prior to that, and they seem to have some special on at the moment for wireless, first two months free. Am I wrong?, have they told you something different when you have spoken to them?

If they really aren't interested in doing it, then axptguy38 seems to have solved your problem

Glad that someone else has a proper home setup. ;) I have a server, a NAS storage device, a home theater PC, two desktops, two laptops and a printer.

"How easy was it to connect the printer to the wireless router"

I got a printer with a built in network card. Makes it easy. Just plug a cable to the router. In your case it might be a bit more complex. What is the model name of the printer?

Or plain Ethernet wires. The advantage of power line networking is that the power lines are already there and go everywhere in the house.

I would highly recommend that you get an IT savvy friend to help out.

help!

i bought a wireless router and it works. but the thing is my hgc broadband pc access doesnt work! when i called the hotline they told me the broadband access does not work if I use an additonal pc/laptop wireless! one modem-one broadband access their policy. isnt that ridiculous?

isnt there still a way to use both, my pc broadband and wirless acces with the router>?

morningcoffee. I will assume that hgc broadband requires some sort of login. As in you doubleclick a link which initiates a connection. Same with Netvigator.

If you go into the web interface for your router you can set it to do the connection automatically. That way the computer(s) doesn't have to do it. Then you will be always on.

Once this is set up, there is no way for your ISP to know if you have a PC or a router.. Their claim that it will not work is absurd and probably just a way to avoid supporting your setup if there are issues.
