Organic food grocery shopping

I have been looking for quality organic food in Shanghai but I don't trust the little boutique stores as the stuff there don't look very fresh. I also heard horror stories about fake organic vegies offered in Carrifour (the pestiside residue is way above normal). I recently found a website that offers organic food: www.helekang.com/english, and they promise to deliver next day after harvest to guarantee freshness. The site seems to be in good order. Does anyone have experience with it? Any recommendations?

Hi Sweetpie

I am in Beijing, and we get excellent organic fresh veggies delivered every week. Most of the farms also arrange visits a few times a year and are very open about sharing information about their farming.

There is a fabulous Yahoo Group that has lots of organic information for China:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/beijing_organic_consumers/?yguid=345488239

Liora, the woman who started it, used to live in Shanghai, and can help you out.

Two of the services I use also are in Shanghai.

www.ofood.cn (we get some of their products here)

Organic Weekend - wdf@cosep.net (they also have some in Beijing)

I have heard of Helekang, and saw their catalog, they seem to be very large, but we haven't used them yet.

AND IF YOU ARE IN BEIJING

Organic Milk and Yogurt -

Joan -

organiclife@greenyard.cn - 13901282292

Delivers once a week, if you order regularly, you can pay one month in advance and get a discount.

Organic Fruit and Veg and Rice

Klaus - organicfarm@126.com

They send a spreadsheet twice a week, and you choose what you want, minimum

100RMB.

We get our organic brown rice from them, and sometimes they have great

apples, pears and grapes too. Also garlic, chili, onion and herbs. They sell

to Carrefour and lots of the hotels and restaurants so have a very large

selection.

De Run Wu Organic Farm

Ji YunLiang - jiyunliang@vip.163.com

They also sell to restaurants and hotels. they send a word document with

photos of what's available every week, you choose what you want and they

send 4KG for 80RMB

Organic Weekend

wdf@cosep.net

They also send a weekly spreadsheet to order from

Just write to all of them, and ask to be added to their lists, then you

will get the list every week, and can order when and what you want. I have

been very impressed with the customer service from all of them.

I get weekly orders from Greenyard (milk and yogurt), and alternate between

De Run Wu and Organic Farm (Klaus) depending upon what we need - if we need

rice, garlic, onions, etc... I get organic farm - if we just need the

regular green veggies, then De Run Wu.

Thanks very much! I looked at www.ofood.com and they don't seem to offer fresh produce in Shanghai. I just placed a small order with www.helekang.com, and they said they will deliver on Wed. Will check on the quality. They seem to have lots of stuff even including meat, which is nice. But I will try it out first, and will share with all on the experience.

Yes, I have been ordering from them every week and have been extremely happy with their service. They deliver to my home free of charge. I even have been to their farm to check it out and it was very well managed organic farm. Trust worthy. Highly recommended.
