My daughter is 1 year and 1 month she is however still not teething and not walking should I worry. The doctors seemed to think not. But I can't help wondering. She does crawl and stand up.

don't worry. Her social skills are so much more important, and children do catch up and even out over time.

110% agree with docboat. Ours was taught to roll at the age of 10 months, she sat at the age of around 1 year and started to crawl around 1 yr 3 months. Today she is over 4 yrs old and running all over the place and doesn't shut up.

The chinese say "the early to walk the harder the life(work a lot)" :)

No worries. Our #1 walked at 16 months. Our #2 is amost 15 months and is not walking yet. For the record, I was 18 months and so was my wife.

As for teeth, some kids are just very late.

I would add that it takes seemingly ages for children to progress from crawling to cruising to walking. Our #2 has been crawling from about 8 months and cruising from 11 or so. I know she can balance standing up and even take a few steps since I have tried to make her do it. But she simply sits down after a second. It's not that she can't do it. I just think she doesn't see the point. ;)

just to put your mind at ease, one of ours walked at 15 months, the other at 17 - and they NEVER crawled! shuffled on their bums, but never crawled or roller over for that matter.. I was pulling my hair out.. Now they are 2 yrs old and run, jump, climb - no difference whatsoever from the babies who strated walking months and months and months before ours! relax!

Teeth - not sure - was kinda thinking should have some by now? but then if doctor says not a problem, not a problem! Ours were a bit strange in that department - they had 16 teeth each by 12 months - not normal either..

"shuffled on their bums, but never crawled or roller over for that matter.. I was pulling my hair out.."

Heh. Well crawling is not considered a milestone by doctors. Plenty of babies don't crawl actually.

actually teething is hereditary...my mum told me that i got my teeth after i turned 1 and i saw that happening with both my girls...older one got it at 11 mths and the younger one just as she turned 1.

yes, totally true - teething is genetic - ask your parents when you had yours... mine got exactly what i had (very early full set of teeth) apparently, according to my mother.

So what do you feed a 1 year old that does not have teeth. She seems to have no problem eating fish crackers or any other crackers for that matter but if you don't smash her food she gags. Thanx for the replies she's my second, I am not too concern but it is at the back of my mind. My first was slow to, it must be genetic.

"She seems to have no problem eating fish crackers or any other crackers for that matter but if you don't smash her food she gags."

This depends a lot on the child. Our #1 was like that. Gagged on non mashed food until she had a few teeth. Out #2 happily eats a piece of grilled chicken by smashing it into submission between the two teeth in her lower jaw and her upper jaw.

my daugther is 1 yr, 2 months.... she still only has 4 teeth. her first tooth came at almost 11 months... my son got his first tooth at about 9/10 months.

My little girl eats everything - she must have gums of steel.... apples, hard cereals and crackers, etc... unless she is choking, there is no reason to adjust food due to no teeth.

Our son, was totally averse to texture in his food until about 11 months, then started to eat everything... so his food was mashed much longer.

so of course mash a bit and cut things into small pieces for her to 'chew'... as long as she isn't gagging.

Regarding the crawling/walking. our son, was super early at both. our daugther refused to walk unless she was holding our hands... as soon as we let go, she would sit. Then one day, she did one or two steps on her own... then nothing for about a month... then boom! she walked across the flat with no assistance!! She COULD walk the whole time, she just didn't want to.... then she decided she did and now she never crawls anymore.

My only suggestion (besided don't worry) is that you can try walking holding her hands... so she gets used to it (if she likes it).

good luck, don't worry, every kid has their own pace, and the medical development range of 'normal' is huge!!

All kids are different and things happen at different stages. It does make me laugh here how, especially amoungst locals, how they determine their kids development from charts and what their friends kids are doing and then worry with no reason. All of my kids have been different in their development as follows.

Son No.1: Rolled over @ 2 months, Crawled @ 4 months, Walking 8 months, First teeth @ 9 months

Son No.2, Rolled over @ 5 months, Crawled @ 9 months and Walked at 14 months. Don't think he started having teeth until around 10 months.

Daughter, Rolled over @ 7 months, Crawled at 9 months. 2 teeth started to show at 8 months and thats all she has now. She is today 11 months old and can move across the floor like a rocket, pick herself up to standing by the sofa, etc but cannot walk.

So all different, no need to worry. As long as they're happy that's the main thing.

Yeah, playgroup always had at least one local parent with questions like: "at what age did she start walking?"; "how tall was she at two, because you double that to get the age as an adult..."; "so can she pile those blocks up? mine can't. I'm a bit worried." They would be shocked when I professed to have no idea about any of these things, and not to care that much either. I mean sure, we write it all down in a diary, but I don't need to compare with other kids. My kids are my kids are my kids, uniquely amazing, each in her own way.

As Dr. Spock famously said: "We can talk about average children as long as you understand that no children are average."
