Hi - I'd like to have some ball park estimates of the cost of buying a good riding horse in Hong Kong and the monthly costs of keeping it in stables - including vet, farrier, equipment. Alternatively - would the cost differ in Schenzen? Thanks!

The answer is definitely yes, although I don't know the cost in HK. I went to a riding school in Shenzhen once and found the horses they rented were a bit shabby (so I didn't go back), but the horses "owned by someone" were very healthy (and i know what I'm talking about). That said, it was no race stable.
I used to volunteer for RDA in the Pokfulam riding school, they have a few horses they don't own, perhaps you could enquire there? Riding lessons are v expensive, so i expect (but don't know for sure!) monthly keeping of a horse is huge, but that's because it's in Pok Fu Lam.
The riding school in Tuen Mun has great facilities and is likely to be cheaper.
Pokfulam riding school: 2550 1359 Tuen Mun: 2461 3338 Lei Yue Mun: 2568 9776
These are public riding schools run by the Jockey Club, you may be able to find more info on their website: www.hkjc.org.hk
Also have a look at the Lowu Saddle Club (not a Jockey Club facility): http://www.lowusaddleclub.org/

there's a new equestrian centre and animal farm opening in clearwater bay in a few months time, perhaps keep an eye out for it.
