I have a HP Pavilion zd8004 17" laptop that I am essentially running as a desktop replacement (i.e. using the power adaptor rather than battery), but it keep shutting down without warning.
Previously it seemed that the adaptor was overheating ( I don't know why), but now it is shutting down all the time and the adaptor does not seem to be the issue? I have run virus scan and other utilities which has not seemed to identify the issue.
Can anyone shed light on the possible cuase and options to resolve?
Alternatively can anyone suggest a store or alike that I could take the laptop to to hae it examined professionally and repaired?
Looking forward to feedback as this laptop is my lifeline!
Cheers

Shutting down as in lights out just bam? That sort of thing is often caused by overheating. It's a defense mechanism to prevent damage. Maybe a fan broke inside or is full of dust. You could try buying a can of compressed air and blowing into all the vents and see if that improves things.
Otherwise I'd take it to the Wan Chai Computer Center and ask around on the second floor. Several floors there should be able to take a look.

Yup, that sounds about right. If everything is clean (not much dust), I'd still check the power adaptor in case there's a problem there too. Why not see if it does the same thing using the battery. What about the fan, do you hear it humming at all? If not, then that's the problem. axptguy has a point there.
Basically just try to eliminate each possible cause and then bring it in to a computer centre for a check. Usually you can solve the problem without "professional" help.

Get your laptop into a air conditioned room at 22 degrees. If it works without problem all you have is the typical heating issue.
