Any experience with DOMPERIDOME?

Has anyone taken this? Did it make a difference and increase your milk supply? Did you have any side effects that you know of? Does it get into the breast milk?

I have a very low milk supply and I have tried everything--fenugreek, chinese soups, drinking loads of water, etc. I've seen a lactation consultant. Nothing has made much of a difference. After pumping for 30 minutes, I'm lucky to get one measly ounce. But I want to keep trying. I've been recommended as a last resort to try Domperidome.

I've heard that results are phenomenal--ie. one mom could pump 20 ounces in a sitting! That's incredible.

Problem is that I've read some FDA warnings against using the drug to increase milk supply.

I'm already a very anti-medication person so I'm very wary about using it. Can anyone who has used it please share your feedback??

Of course I wouldn't take any medication to increase milk supply ! Isn't that going against the WHOLE reason of breastfeeding !?

Also, this medication... a relative is using it for his Parkinson's disease. It's to prevent nausea, and gets his stomach and whole intestinal system moving....

Your purpose of taking this drug is indeed a side effect, most likely due to the increasing prolactin in your pit gland.

I wouldn't do it. That's my opinion.

Hi 24, I was in the same situation when I had my son yr and half ago. Like you, I tried everything + lac consultant and was still only getting 1+oz per sitting. Another drug (forget name now) was recommended to me, supposedly it was given to moms who adopt kids... or sth like that, it was supposed to substantially boost your milk supply... I ultimately decided against it as it sounded against nature and also, I did not want anything messing with my hormones at a time when I should be recovering myself. Your health is just as important as bub's. I ended up pumping for 2-3 weeks and gave whatever supply I had, thinking he would benefit from some antibodies? Then just followed up with formula. He is a happy & healthy toddler now.

It's very commonly used in Canada, prescribed by doctors to help milk supply issues. I've known many mothers to have good success using it.. In China it's an OTC drug

Have you had your uterus checked to make sure you haven't any retained placenta? If there is even a scrap still inside, your body thinks you are still pregnant and you won't produce enough milk.

Talk to Sarah from La Leche League Hong Kong. She's AMAZING at helping mothers!!

or if your body isn't producing enough milk, it means just that, do the best you can, and followup with formula.

Breastfeeding is a natural instinct by the mother, and baby gets fed this way in the most natural, and healthy way. However, if the mother has to succumb to medication in order to produce milk, that is not natural, and goes against everything that breastfeeding is about.

Don't force it, just do the best you can.

I used it and it worked. I managed to keep breastfeeding for many more months because of it. I wasn't on it constantly. I felt the trace amounts that crossed into breastmilk were better than not breastfeeding. They have been prescribing this drug to infants for many years for spitting up. There is a lot of information on the net - like Ruth said it is used often in Canada and I found the Canadian BF sites the most informative.

Seems to be the best option as some of the drugs they can supply (eg Reglan) can sometimes cause depression and domperidone does not. PM me if you want further information.
