The two don't seem to be compatible at all. My line goes dead every time after using the lock. I do want to use the lock. What to do? I know this is likely to be a pccw / now broadband policy to keep users' computers wide open to them. I used to use i-cable till not too long ago and it was perfect.

I assume that by "using the lock" you mean clicking the padlock icon in ZoneAlarm. If memory serves this shuts down the Internet connection on the computer so it seems to be working as advertized. ZA is on when installed. No need to click the padlock.
As for any PCCW/Now policy of access, I don't think so. Firewalls work just fine on the connection. If nothing else, most people have the Windows Firewall active.

I have the newest ZASS ver7.0.470.000 without any problems and also using with PCCW/NOW broadband. Clicking on the padlock icon disables all internet connections. Not sure why you're having trouble though. I've also got the OS and ZA firewall and antivirus running trouble-free.
