baby haircut- thicker, faster hair growth?

Is it a myth that trimming a baby's hair will make it grow faster and grow in thicker? My husband argues with me that hair is dead, etc. However, numerous other people, including a family friend who is a hairdresser, say that trimming a baby's hair will help it transition from fine baby hair to thicker hair... What do you think? (My baby is 18 months old). Thanks.

myth! doesn't make any sense that cutting hair makes it thicker and grow faster! trimming hair whether it's baby's hair or adult hair only gives the appearance of being thicker because the ends are blunt and the whispy bits gone.

well, i kind of dont believe it either, but in many cultures the baby's hair is shaved at around 12 months (girls and boys) and it does seem to grow thicker from the ones i have seen... go figure...

Total myth. Sashimi Girl has the explanation. And of course it's thicker if you shave it at 12 months. Baby hair does that anyway.

BTW I shave my head every 2-3 days and it never seems to "grow stronger". Granted I'm a big baby but still...

thanks for your replies. I agree with Sashimi Girl, so I will probably give my baby a trim to tidy up her hair and get rid of the "rat tails".

i think it does make hair grow thicker and stronger. my parents never shaved off my baby hair (though ofcourse it was trimmed often so that it was not too long) until i was much older so it was always very fine, and would tangle a lot. Once it was actually all shaved off, it grew back much thicker and stronger.

Gave my babies head a shave a couple of months back, his hair now is a lot better, though still a bit sparse and fine by indian/asian standards, so i think genetics play a bigger role...

Complete myth. Babies hair is constantly getting thicker, as it is throughout childhood so of course you would notice a difference after shaving. An old wives tale based on what is, in fact, an optical illusion!
