In today's apple newspaper, the mother tried to kill her own child 3yr old before she committed suicide. Just wondering from other mother's point of view what's the pschology behind this? for revenage? or because she feel the child is HER responsibility and that if she dies the child needs to die too because of fear no one will take care of him/her? I just can't understand.

No idea of the rationale behind this, has happened a few time here as well as back in the west. For me just brings tears to my eyes thinking about the kids who are so vulnerable knowing the persons they trust the most are trying to hurt them and wondering why. It's so sad.

It was terrible news. And yes, like Cara said... seems to be quite common, esp in the last 5 years..... pressure and the lack of social support for many families esp in the lower social class.
This woman was angry that her policeman husband was having an affair. Maybe she's been bottling it inside for a long time.... and when the last straw broke she decided to kill her child first, and then herself, so he has nothing left. The boy was their only child.
TERRIBLE news.... so sad.

I think the mother child relationship must be truly distorted to the point where she either feels her child is her property/responsibility Or she may have a serious problems which she blames her child for, PND or psychosis. Blaming child for breakdown of her relationship or stress in her life etc.
REALLY SAD and I can't even bear to think of the poor baby in her mothers arms being hurt and killed. the sickest of all crimes somehow.... most unnatural.

Um, generally, when people are sick enough to kill themselves or others, there isn't much you can do to rationalize it. So, this question is a bit weird. I mean, a normal, healthy mother (or father) isn't thinking in these terms so how could we answer this question? It's not a "woman" or "mother" thing to think about.
I mean, there have been loads of cases in the US where mothers kill their kids. They do it in all sorts of fashions and the impetus comes from all sorts of places--but namely, insanity. One woman thought God was telling her to kill her children so they could go to heaven and be in a better place. One woman feels so hopeless that the only way out for her and her family is death. Many of these women suffer with undiagnosed and/or untreated post-partum depression which eventually turns into psychosis--this is a real danger and many women are at risk for it.
A lot of these women don't have good support systems either--single mother--raising multiple kids. Lots of stress providing for her kids and herself. Can you imagine what that's like in Hong Kong? Yikes!
