I still have 3 months of university left which I can do externally. I can also stay in Hong Kong for a 90 day holiday without a visa. So I'm hoping to go to HK for 90 days, finish my university in my home country and then try to find a job/internship in Hong Kong. Is it possible that I could get my visa changed (if I am lucky enough to find a job) from a 90 day tourist visa to a working visa? Does anyone have experience with something like this?

Hi,
I've been in HK with my partner for three months & we're still going through the immigration process. It is impossible to get a work permit without a company sponsor - which is what my partner has. I on the other hand don't & I can't even get one as a de-facto. So i'm about to embark on looking for work with a company who will sponsor me. In all my research, this looks very difficult as the company needs to prove that they can't hire your particular skill set from a resident. I work in Marketing which is a pretty broad and populated field so i'm not holding my breath. I don't know what the deal is with internships. My advice would be to start making contacts now & then by the end of your 90 days you'll know what your opportunities are.
Good luck.

I would say that it is going to be very tough for a fresh graduate to do what you are suggesting, unless you come from a top university or have a very specific skill set which is in short supply. i.e. my friend came out to Hong Kong after finishing Yale Law and found work as a US attorney with a prestigious law firm pretty quickly and had multiple offers in fact, but he had a graduate qualification with a uniquely defined skill set and from the top university. Its going to be tough for a fresh grad straight out of college.

If you are between 18 and 30 and from either Australia, Ireland or New Zealand, there is a Working Holiday Scheme which might get you in the door. Info at: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_10.htm
