cancelled

I wonder if anyone has any advice about my situation. In April I flew with BA HK-Lon-SFO-Lon-HK.While in San francisco I received a SMS from BA saying they had cancelled my flight.Hence I had to pay for extra hotel costs and other expenses until I could get on a flight(next day).Up to now BA have refused compensation saying that it was due to "Extraordinary circumstances" and thats all they'll say to me.Also my travel insurance wont pay out because the reason for the cancellation BA gave to them was "staff shortage" and thats about the only thing they dont insure for.As they sent me the sms 72 hours before my fliht was due I fail to see how that is "Extraordinary circumstances"Also I had changed the sim card in my phone while I was in the USA(which I'm sure lots of people do) and only got the message a couple of days later.BA sent me 80 pounds vouchers which can only be used to buy items while on one of their flights and as i dont intend flying with themunless this is settled I wont accept them,in any case they are only valid till the end of this month

First thing you need to do is look at the terms and conditions of your contract with them. Ask them to point out the clauses which allow them to escape or limit liabilty (which will almost certainly be there).

Thanks for your reply.I casn see my travel agent has a getout clause but not the airline. How can staff shortage (72 hours before the flight be "Exceptional circumstances"not that they ever admitted to me it was staff shortage but I have it in writing via my travel insurance agent.

If you paid for your tickets using your credit card, starting the chargeback process will be sure to get their attention.
