My wife and I are concerned with how dirty our airconditioners seem to be. When you examine them closely they seem to be full of dirt and grime. Our daughter has seen her asthma get worse lately, mainly of an evening and we suspect the airconditoner.
Can anyone advise of how we could get our airconditioners fully serviced and more importantly cleaned out THOROUGHLY!
Any advice on companies, individuals etc who we could call to get this done?

Amanda Le pretty much describes it. Open it up according to the manual and clean everything in sight with a bleach solution.
You can also use HEPA filters if the air conditioner supports it.
I would say that if it gets stuck in the A/C or dehumidifier filter it isn't getting stuck in your lungs. Also consider an air purifier.
