Book and paper bugs

I went away in June for two weeks, turning off the air-con so flat got quite hot, came back and within days found most of my piles of paper and books had very small bugs in them. Like flea or tick size. I'd found the little critters before on occasion, but now seems like an infestation or heading that way.

Online I can find suggestions to freeze, but this being HK, I don't have a deep freezer or a fridge big enough. I have started to throw away and reduce the pile of paper, but can't really do that with the books.

My only thoughts so far to resolve are to use the vacuum seal you can get for clothes and seal the books & paper in there, hopefully starving the bugs of air. Then use cleaner on all the surfaces, again, and see if that works.

Bit of a task, so before I start, thought I'd see if there was other suggestions.

Thanks.

Sealed plastic bags works for storage. Throw some of those dehumidifying packs from the grocery store in as well. Freezing is good to kill any existing bugs.

You should have a dehumidifier always on. Get one that allows hose mounting so the tank doesn't have to be emptied when you are away. Drying the air out really helps. If you put the books in a "closed" bookshelf with doors get the dehumidifying pots from the grocery store and put them inside with the books.
