Hi guys,

Is it possible to claim things like laptops, mobile phones, PCS, etc in HK as a tax discount?

We are able to do this in Australia and just curious if it is an option in HK.

Thanks.

Maybe as a business expense, but there is no sales tax, So I don't see how you could claim anything back from the governement on tax.

Not sure. Was just curious. Couldn't find anything on the IRD website about it.

In Australia you can claim things like laptop against your income tax just like you would be able to claim a uniform for example.

There's not as much deductions in HK compared to Australia, and none of the weird rules surrounding deductions either (eg whether you can claim sunscreen, stockings and cosmetics). One of the reasons is that your tax rate is around 11-14% so there isn't as much scrooging for deductions like there is in Australia.

Excellent information. Sounds simpler than Australia. Thanks Dadda and SXC.

No FBT here in HK either, so salary sacrificing doesn't occur.
