You can already do that - but in a more exciting way... if there is a thread that you are interested to follow, just click Follow this Thread (its right below the thread title with rules etc...). If you click that you will get an email each time someone responds - you can turn it off by clicking the Stop Following Thread link in the same position.
You can also click the RSS Feed on a specific forum - that will pull all the most recent threads to your browser automatically.

To clarify do you want to reduce the number of categories that you see on this page? http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/
i.e. have the power to say hide forums you do not use?

yes it would be good to be able to customize, but perhaps leave the quick navigation menu up so it leaves the option to visit those sites we currently feel have no interest. If and when interest does arise.

We have a quick nav on each forum -see the drawdown Change Forum: http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/living-in-or-moving-to-hong-kong/

You can make a favorites folder in Firefox with your favorite forums. Ctrl+click on it and they all open, each in its own tab.
