Exciting Times!

As an Editor there are often things that one would find exciting whilst others mind not.


This is one of them!


Last night the Creator blessed me with a new and very powerful tool. In addition to being able to post the News stories each and every day (which I will do shortly), I now also am able to command which threads appear on the home page of the Hong Kong site!!!!


Yes, instead of only the Most Viewed automatically appearing there, instead of some robotic program choosing them, it is now I (and I alone) who has the POWER to CHOOSE!

And another thing that the Creator has done for us overnight is next to News changed the tabs so that now the most viewed property topics display. This too is very exciting for me because, as one thread there indicates, we have great influence on the property market (more listings for sale on AsiaXPAT correlates with a downturn in the market).


So if you are an analyst dump all the pie charts and bar graphs in the bin and watch the Property Advice Forum on AsiaXPAT to get the pulse of HK property.

And wait.... there's more!!! Yes more.


The Creator was on holidays last week which left Ed time to enjoy Molson and to go over the 8 billion recommendations that we received from members who took the Survey (and btw not only will we be putting the survey results online we are considering creating 100,000 copies of it in the form a high quality glossy magazine and handing them out on the streets + posting them to the right people... but thats another story).


One of the recommendations was to have powerful site search. So the Creator contacted the creators of Google and they will allow us to borrow the machine that allows one to search the web and attach it to AsiaXPAT. If the significance of this is not clear (and I am sure its probably not) I will let you in on a secret - once we attach this machine to our machine then you will be able to search every single nook and cranny of each of our sites. And because we have literally billions and trillions and even thousands of information contained in our web making machine which has been around since the beginning of Hong Kong, there will be NO NEED to ever go anywhere else for information on Hong Kong!!! All you will have to do is type in the word in our soon to come most powerful search and abracadabra - you will have the answer to .... Anything!!!


Yes, if you type in 'Is there a God' you will get the answer.


If you type 'Are their martians' you will get the answer.


And even if you type in Hong Kong handyman.... yes.... you will get the answer.



The new search is top of the list on the MISSION for tonight and should be ready by the morning!!!! I bet you won't be able to sleep either thinking about it eh.

The Search is nearly complete - waiting for SG Ed to Pay the Money to them so we can make it live.


It works very nice too - for example if you type in the word shama, it will pull every single mention of shama from the site whether its in the serviced apartment section, a forum, a property listing or in the a-z.


We will also drop it on the classifieds - if you type fridge it immediately pulls every ad with a fridge in it...

We've now added a new search function to all pages of the HK site.


We are paying Google a few to use their search technology so its super fast and accurate.


You can now search every nook and cranny of AsiaXPAT for useful content that we have gathered over many years of operation.

Soon I will also be able to prove that a circle is a square... that 2+2=5....
