"axptguy38 - Horizon Plaza has Ryhmba Ryhme etc, which all have the dark wood 'Asian' style of furniture. I am looking for something a bit more like Ikea, but more upmarket."

Granted, but stores like Indigo and Tequila Kola also have lighter woods. If not on display, then in their catalog.

I have sent you a PM with a good custom furniture maker BTW.

Opposite McDonalds in Sai Kung is a great place for cheaper chinese 'antiques'. We also got good stuff at a place on the 15th floor of Horizon Plaza.

I remember seeing a couple of brochures in that large AV store in the basement/ ground(?) floor at Langham Place mall for imported Italian flat-screen TV stands. Various designs involving tempered glass. Very lairey. If I recall correctly, prices were around HKD10,000+. (Definitely more 'up market' than IKEA!) You could also ask in the shops on the AV floors at Ocean Terminal or is it the connecting mall (can't remember name), or Times Square. I reckon the stores that display Vogel's brochures or similar might be your best bet as they seem to have worked out that people want - and will pay for - modern (not wooden or antique-looking) stands or brackets that are in keeping with their $$$$$ state-of-the-art screens.

We got our stand made to measure by a small shop in Horizon Plaza. Space for DVD player, Amp etc and drawers for DVDs. Don't recall the name but on one one of the top few floors. Saw it the other day so it's still there. They get it made in China (of course) and have a variety of veneers they use, so there's a wide range of colours. We thought it pretty cheap - probably 3 or 4K.

"Will stroll through the top floors of Horizon Plaza this saturday"

That sort of statement gives me a cold sweat. At least do yourself a favor and go early before the Mongol hordes ride in.

I hear ya. Our tactic is to plan carefully. Go all the way up to start with, then walk down.
