there is no thread on this - i searched! what are the best chinese restaurants in your opinion? We have friends visiting and need to book somewhere (for dinner, not dim sum) reasonably nice with great food? So far I quite liked Peking Garden in Alexandra house - but it is in the basement, would be nice to be above ground level!! Thanks in advance

Also, Peking Garden has a Jade Garden in Star House in TST and if you book a biggish table (in the window) you can see over the harbour I think. They have the same noodle show as well.
It's not as smart as Peking garden, but the food is that same and if it's for out-of-towner's you can watch the light show before dinner.

What bout Crsytal Jade at IFC? No reservations but awesome food, reasonably priced.

Lei Garden in IFC is very good. After a good shopping spree at the IFC all of you can enjoy a nice dinner there! Too bad they have no view of the harbor though.

How about Spring Dear in TST? The view sucks, but it's one of the last few surviving "old HK style" (with old HK waiters and a low ceiling) places to get Beijing/Shan Dong food. Their dry fried spicy beef w/carrots (and sesame pockets) is outstanding! But make your booking weeks in advance (or convince Holiday Inn's concierge to book it for you), or you'll have to wait in line for an eternity. Also, be sure to reserve a Shan Dong chicken (they sell out by 6 PM usually) and a Peking Duck.
Does anyone know of other old HK restaurants that serve Northern Chinese cuisine? I used to go to Cheung Chuk Lau in CWB and Sun Hong Cheung Hing in TST, but both closed down years ago... Does anything like this exist on the East of HK Island or in the Kwun Tong area?
