The most important restriction is that you need to fly east-west or west-east, and you cannot backtrack.
I suggest that you map out a rough itinerary along these lines and talk to a good travel agent. RTW tickets are usually good value IF you want to go to several cities.

All airline alliances offer these - take a look on their site. Pricing depends on how many stops and how many per continent. The Flyer Talk forum can be very useful.

Make sure you check out the cost of RTW tickets departing from nearby countries. For instance, when we wanted to get OneWorld RTW tickets departing from UK, we found that most Euro locations were cheaper to start from than the UK and Gibralter was the cheapest of all. So, we bought the RTW ticket from Gib (saved over GBP1,000 each for a business ticket) and bought a separate ticket to get to Gib. In Asia, I've heard that starting from Bangkok or Tapei is cheaper than other places such as HK but I've not looked into this. FlyerTalk will have all sorts of tips.
