how to get info off..,

have bought a USB hub that is also a memory card reader...do have plugged it into a usb port, and put the memory stick into the slot...but now what! how do i get the info?! being dumb i know....!! thanks

I'll assume you have XP or Vista. It should "auto-play", that is you should get a dialog box within 5-5 seconds asking you what you want to do with the memory. Might take a bit longer the first time.


If for some reason you've turned off auto-play, open Windows Explorer (windows button + e) and look among the drives there.


If you still don't get it, try plugging in another USB port. They can be wonky that way.


If it still doesn't work, post back and we'll start talking about assigning drive letters to devices.

thanks - it isnt auto playing...tried a new port - tried looking att he drives but dont see it! i changed port and it said new hardware detected but then nothing!

So let's see if the computer can see it, but is failing to assign a drive letter.

- Find the "My Computer" icon/item either on your desktop or in the Start Menu.

- Right click on it and select "Manage".

- In Computer Management, go to "Storage"/"Disk Management".

- In the bottom pane, find the USB key. If you can't, likely either your key or your reader is bad and needs to be replaced. A remote possibility is that something is screwed up with your O/S.

- If you can find it in the list, right click in the left column and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths". The select "Add" and then "Assign the following Drive Letter". Pick any one you like. Ok out of everything and it should show up automagically or at least in Windows Explorer.
