This happens occasionally. Try to shorten the nap(s) a bit, and/or delay bedtime.

Sometimes it is a passing thing and goes back after a few more weeks.

Another factor to consider is "going back to sleep". If you go in when she wakes she might get excited. If she isn't crying but just sitting there awake you can try ignoring her for a while. She might well go back to sleep. This is an important skill to learn.

so what is the recommended amount of nap for a 1 nap 15 month old? impossible to answer i know as all babies are different... however. his highness went down for his nap at 11am and is now still napping at 1.30pm! so he will probably do about 3 hours. i heard that is best to not let them sleep for more than 2 hours at a time during the day?

he goes to bed between 7 and 8pm. but this doesn't seem to affect his wake up time. unless i try putting him down much later at 9pm?

There's no real rule for the nap except that total sleep needs to be 13-14 hours per day. Still, I think 3 hours is too long and that may well be the problem. Our 15 month old does 2 hours, perhaps 2:15 tops. If she is still sleeping at that point we wake her. Otherwise she doesn't sleep through the night and wakes up at oh-dark-thirty like yours. You need to encourage sleeping at night. The nap should not "replace" night time sleep hours.

Night time ours sleeps from 19:00-19:30 until 06:00-07:00. Her older sister, almost three, does 30-60 minutes less at night and has a 1½ hour nap.

I would also try moving nap time to later in the afternoon. Perhaps starting at 13:00-13:30. I have a feeling that will work better. He'll be properly tired for his nap and rest "efficiently".

Yes, the afternoon nap really need to be spaced further, at least a good 5-6 hrs. from when they wake, and should not be more than 2.5 hrs tops. This promotes better sleep for the baby at night since they're not asleep as much during the day.

I would also avoid feeding the baby if they do wake in the middle of the night since this will only make matters worse. This will make them associate waking with feeding. If the baby isn't crying, the best way is to let them go back to sleep on their own. If the baby is crying, then maybe they are wet and/or hungry.

Good luck!

alcheng has it right. Unless there is a poopy smell or baby is inconsolable, try ignoring him for a while when he wakes up. Definitely no food.

Have you got black out blinds?? mine got much more light sensitive at this age and I found it did wonders. just test it by totally blacking out the windows in the bedroom with a black rubbish bin liner or something stuck on to see if there is any improvement. it's getting light really at 5.00 these days.

If you cut her nap make sure you put her to bed the same amount of time earlier int he evening.

Really night bedtime doesn't affect when they wake up unless it's extremely late like 9 or 10.

Even then mine still wake at the same time, there is something about 6 or 6 .30 that triggers them!

we do have black out curtains but i've noticed that the light still comes through the sides. it may well be that it is because it is getting light earlier..

babies just do not like to sleep in??!! i was reading some trashy gossip magazines at the hairdressers and read of a 2 year old that slept at 11pm and didn't wake up till 9am. is this possible?!! what about local chinese babies who are often put to be late too. do they wake up at 6am or later?

"we do have black out curtains but i've noticed that the light still comes through the sides. it may well be that it is because it is getting light earlier."

I dunno. Growing up in Sweden, I got used to sleeping in the light. We don't even have curtains in our bedroom (the kids' room has curtains though). Certainly a ray of sunlight in their eyes will wake them up, but I don't think the problem will be solved with blackout curtains. Of course that's just my experience.

Of course it is possible to shift sleep times. However the whole going to bed late thing is not really good for kids and sets up bad habits later in life. After all, they will eventually have to get up pretty early to go to school and work. I have also noticed that a lot of the kids who are allowed to stay up late seem chronically tired during the day. 11-9 is only 10 hours. That's just not long enough.

yes wwb, hold in there. last night, just out of the blue, my baby slept from 8pm to 7am WITHOUT WAKING UP ONCE!!! this might be normal for some kids, but it is absolutely ABnormal for my little one. :) and after two weeks of waking up between 5 and 6am, this is a miracle! although i do not want to jinx this and i am sitting her typing with all my fingers, legs and toes crossed...;)

They do seem to go through erratic periods now and again. It's weird.
