I am moving to HK at the end of this month for one year. I will want to visit mainland China several times over the course of the year. Should I get a multiple entry China visa for one year for $160 US or should I wait and get the visa in HK? Getting the visa here is a bit inconvenient, but a friend suggested that it will be more inconvenient in HK.

Get it where you are. China multiple entry visa issuance is a big problem in HK right now with the Olympics and no one really knows when the situation will return to normal, if at all.

Since it's impossible to get multiple (i.e. more than a sinle or a double entry) visa from here (HK) these days, better to get it from the US if you can (before paying, check with the Chinese Embassy that they still issue multi-entries (or you may end up with a Double entry you paid too much)....
Also to get a visa to China you have to give proof of stay (i.e. hotel booking + return ticket) unless you have a HK ID card (less stringent for Shenzhen day trips).
