Shipping from the US to HK inexpensively

I am moving to HK for one year. I do not have much time for shipping, nor do I have enough stuff to fill a container. I am looking for suggestions for how to ship medium sized boxes inexpensively.

Air shipping is weight critical, while sea shipping is not. That is, with sea shipping the weight doesn't affect price too much.

I would call a couple of movers and ask how much they would charge per cubic foot. Make sure to include insurance and all customs and handling fees to your door in HK. Also make sure that they can store your stuff while it is being processed for customs and also while you are looking for a place to live (in case the boxes get there earlier than that). In other words, ensure you don't get hit by a "hidden" cost afterwards. Some quotes may sound high, but good firms have good contacts in HK. Crappy firms just have a phone number for an agent and you may have big issues getting your stuff from the harbor in HK, through customs and to your place.

I think the easiest way to handle this sort of bulk cargo for them would be on one or more shipping pallets. That way they can just shrinkwrap the whole pallet(s) and use a forklift. No lifting (and potentially losing) individual boxes,

If you have less than a pallet you can use the US Postal Service. Their shipping calculator is online at www.usps.com.
