Basically games which are made for the US market will not play on Japanese wii and vice versa. You can modify it so it could play all games and also copied games. I understood that modified ones once connected to the web and updated being blocked to play copies or even more.

To play online games using wii points you can play only games which are set for the country you set your wii for, hence Us wii only american games etc.

You can view reviews and instruction for free of each game and they update the games' list I think every 2 weeks. Depending on your prefrences you can choose different games. The 500 point games are quite simple and I think more for the young kids. There are also for 2000 points which are larger in volume and better graphics.
