Hi
I bought some chilled US chicken from the Supermarket to roast and somehow it has a plasticky taste. Anybody else experienced this? I am wondering if it has anything to do with the way these chickens are being stored? Something tells me that I should start buying organic meat.

In my opinion even the so-called free range chickens from Australia, available at Wellcome butcher counter, have no taste. Ditto the frozen ones from Australia / NZ / France.

Dutch chicken from Wellcome is quite tasty. Only comes "in pieces" though.

Hi
Thanks for your feedback. Regarding the Dutch chicken, is that frozen or previously frozen and displayed in the chilled section? Cheers

In the chilled section. Does not say "previously frozen" but that doesn't mean it hasn't been.
"We get our chickens from "Southstream", imported from Aus, full size Chicken for HK$125,,, can't be bad and they deliver !!"
I don't think the initial poster had a price problem. She had a flavor problem. Is this South Stream chicken tasty?

I am a great fan of South Stream, and have always bought all my fish and meat from them, including the chickens mav lui mentions. The chickens are "hormone free", which is reassuring, but I'd draw the line at saying that they actually taste like chicken.

Doesn't it taste of chicken by definition? Jokes aside, thanks for the info.

Snake is supposed to taste like chicken. If the US birds don't taste right, perhaps python would be a good alternative? Think there's a shop in Spring Garden Lane, Wan Chai if you're interested.

Thanks but I don't think I am up for eating snakes! ekkk...
As for South Stream, I'll give that a go. Will also look out for Dutch chickies. Thanks guys.

Ed, come on mate, editing sarcasm and humour???, I realise I was not being particularly helpful which contravenes posting rules and you are owner of the site so it is within your bounds, The point I was making is suggesting someone should opt for python meat because it tastes more like chicken then chicken itself is completely ridiculous. Not to mention I don't think it is legal to sell python in Hong Kong for consumption in the first place. Personally I feel that point is better expressed with a little humour.

Problem is - and we have been down this road far too many times - if we go in this direction the forums begin to lose their intent and turn into chat rooms which always leads to cliques which leads to insults which leads to bans which causes me major headaches...
So our rules are set up to stop this from happening (again) and we enforce them very strictly... there is a fine line between utility and total madness and we know that the minute we give an inch there are a lot of people who will take a mile - again we've had massive problems with this in the past and we do not want re-open that can of warms.

Lillydale chicken from Taste is good but expensive. however we buy our chicken from TC Deli at Hang Hau. He imports all his meat, veges and fruit from Australia. Barramundi is absolutely beautiful and it's cheaper than Southstream.

Ed, I understand the logic, but if you are going to edit my comments, perhaps you should should get rid of the quackery comments as well, the comment is not exactly helpful to begin with. In no circumstance is python meat an alternative to chicken and it is also illegal. The same poster suggested on a different thread that it was illegal to install solar panels in your house in Hong Kong which is clearly not true either.
Its all very well having the posting rules and editing out sarcasm to prevent threads from descending into madness, but if someone is posting nonsense or drivel or making false statements, those comments should be edited as well don't you think.
