has anyone tried traveling with less than 6 mos validity of the passport? will the airline deny us in boarding the plane? ours has 5 month's validity.

I have been denied boarding on a plane to indonesia with 5 months and 27 days validity on my passport... suggest you contact the airline in advance to see the policy because its depressing showing up at the airport to go on holiday and be turned back.

It depends which country, certainly the UK and most other parts of Europe allow it, most places in Asia don't.

It was the bad weather last Friday that kept our trip few hours delayed, we left HK for BKK on Saturday. The airline or even immigration officer in Bkok did not even pointed out the passports' 5 mos. validity issue. Anyway we prepared extra documents just so if they would ask further questions.

the six month thing is subjective at best. in some places in the world it doesn't matter and i'm sure that in some places in asia you can travel. But with that in mind and all of the security issues related to travelling i wouldn't take the chance. Always check your passport well in advance of booking your dates to be safe is my humble advice.
