Chickenpox is common. The sooner protected the less chance of getting infected. The purpose of vaccination is to prevent chickenpox complications such as skin scarring, pneumonia, and shingles.

The vaccination is safe, and offers good immunity when boosted at age 4.

Natural immunity (being exposed to chickenpox) does give life-long protection, however the complications may occur.

We vaccinated our little one at 12 months. We had to choose between the MMR and the chicken pox vaccination as both could not be done at the same time. She will now get her MMR at 15 months.

My daughter was fine after the vaccination so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

While I agree that there is nothing to worry about, the fact that your daughter is fine doesn't really mean much in this context. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy she is fine. Just saying that the fact she is fine doesn't mean everyone else will be..

Agreed. While most vaccinations come with side effects or allergic reactions, this affects a few rather than the majority. From the OP's post I gathered that she was more concerned about the age she should have it done rather than having the vaccination or not. It was just a case of reassuring her about the age factor as I presume she has read or asked about reactions, allergies etc

I agree with Matilda, chickenpox vaccination should be done early. Our's was 12 months when he had his shot.

Your PD should explain to you about the reasons and schedule for each type of shot your baby will need. Plus you can always Google for more info online.

Dear all,

We just get back from France, my son (18 months) on his trip from HK to france to see his grandparent, & We found out that he has his chickenpox on the flight & we drive him to see my husband's doctor there. He offer some yellow medicine to paint on his spot. After one week, I didn't see any new spot comming out..

My wondering was.. I remember I ask the doctor that even you had vaccination, there will not 100% sure you will never get it.. Can anyone prove that's truth??
