Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa??

Has anyone been here?

We have just been offered a great deal of stay 7 or 8 nights and only pay for 4, the website looks fantastic but we were wondering if anyone has got any experience of this resort, holiday destination etc?

Many thanks!

Basically we are looking to go away for 7 or 8 nights to a nice beach resort with resonably priced restauarants and some sightseeing in surrounding area. Some places you go are quite isolated so you have no choice but to eat in their expensive restaurants!

We'd rather build our own resource of hotel recommendations rather than push people off to others...

You make it impossible for people to help Ed with rules no body knows about and unnecessary censorship.

I agree - how is that wrong to ask someone about a hotel you are interested in? whatever on earth happened to freedom of speech?

We are trying to build a resource of recommendations for travel advice in AsiaXPAT - so it makes no sense to link people off to other sites that duplicate this.

To allow links off like this would be like Park N Shop handing our flyers at their entrance with special offers from Wellcome...

With regard to the issue of censorship, I would estimate that well under 0.5% of the submissions to these forums are rejected - and those that are deleted are because they do not follow our rules http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/rules.asp

Freedom of Speech does not exist in any media (try submitting a pro-communism letter to the editor of Fortune, the Economist, or Forbes... they will almost certainly not publish it. Try submitting a letter to any mainstream publication that would be considered politically incorrect and see if they will run it for you...)

If anything internet forums such as these push the limits of freedom of speech as far as you will find anywhere because we publish almost anything from any perspective other than things that violate our rules.

At the end of the day you must have some limits to freedom of speech otherwise you have to open the door to racist comments, profanity, porn, etc...

We balance these along with commercial interests - nothing is perfect but this balance we have achieved generally works quite well.

It's not quite the same Ed Park and Shop are not a forum or place to ask advice and questions from others. All that would of resulted in this instance is the person who posed the question would of got no answers and had to go else where for help anyway. This way they could gone away happy bunnies having got the info they needed happy to return to the site another time if they needed help.

I use the forum regularly but i also use the website i posted for hotel reviews i do not limit myself to one single source for information.

I respectfully disagree.

Park N Shop sells food. People go there to buy food. Therefore Park N Shop would definitely not allow anyone to stand in the entrance (regardless of if they were a competitor or some well intentioned member of the public who wanted to let people know they could get better prices by walking across to the Wellcome shop...)

Likewise we operate forums to provide answers to questions. People come to our site to get advice so I do not see why we should link them off to other sites that duplicate the function of our site.

That aside, as indicated we are trying to build a resource (in fact we are close to launching a Travel Advisor channel of our own - likely this week).

Sending people to other sites that operate similarly does not make any sense. If that were the case then there would be no point in us building the Travel Advisor - we may as well just link directly off to one of the many other sites that offer travel advice... likewise with most other channels of our site...

Therefore we would ask that if anyone has a recommendation for a hotel that they post it on our forum (and on our soon to launch travel channel).

As the entry page to the soon to launch travel channel will indicate:

The AsiaXPAT Travel Advisor provides expat-generated advice and recommendations for hotels, things to do and see, restaurants, as well as photos and videos of a wide variety of travel destinations in Asia. Because all recommendations are powered by you, our members, the information will be relevant to your interests as a traveler. We also work with a wide range of premium travel service providers to include exceptional offers for your next trip in the region.
