Hi
I am in the process of cleaning house - discarding years of accumulated junk, ranging from video tapes and books to clothes and ornaments. Can anyone advise how I can get this junk collected and discarded? I want to be sure it goes to a legal refuse dump, not a fly-tip.
By the way, I've already been in touch with charities, such as Crossroads, etc, and this is material surplus to requirement.
Many thanks in advance for all and any advice!
Best, Mary

for books, give them to your local ESF school, they always have a book stall at their school fairs. Any ornaments, clothes in good condition, try the salvation army shops, theres one in Stanley, although its now called The Family store or something. For clothes there are several places in HK with a Friends of the Earth collection point, the one I know is in Sai Kung, in the alley near Mannings. Or try having a garage sale, and maybe giving the money you raise to charity.

There's also Freecycle (the Hong Kong chapter - google it). You join up, post your items to give away online, then wait for people to contact you to come get it. We've managed to get rid of lots of household stuff this way. I've never waited more than a day or so before the stuff is taken. It's better than throwing it into some overfilled refuse dump in my opinion. One person's junk might be another person's treasure.

I also found if you ask the helpers in your building often they are interested in items - not sure if they get sent back to Philippines or sold.
